Mark Twain House
(Hartford,
Connecticut)
Excerpts from Kristy:
It
seems the more I read about Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain's real
name) the more places try to lay claim to him. However, he
did indeed live in this house for quite a while and he did
raise his children here for at least part of their childhood.
This is truly a tourist attraction. The house is listed in
all of the major guide books and there is a sophisticated
tourist center located in the hillside next to the house.
Tours run every 15 minutes or so on weekends and the guides
take their jobs seriously. If we didn't mention this place
on our site, and you went anywhere else looking for what to
see in Hartford or even Connecticut for that matter, this
would top the list.
The house has been exquisitely restored to as close as preservationists
can possibly come to recreating how Samuel Clemens lived.
Quaint and amusing stories of Clemens family abound and the
tours are intimate, despite the quick pace and other tours
running through nearby rooms.
