Bristol Clock Museum
(Bristol,
Connecticut)
Excerpts from Beth:
Tick tock tick tock. . . the Roadchix trip 2004 was speeding
along, and what better stop to make than the Clock & Watch
Museum. As we waited for our tour to begin (wandering around
the gift shop, what else) we were awed over the ornate clocks
in the lobby area. . . and the obnoxious ticking sound. How
the
employees could function is waaaaaaaay beyond me. Little did
we know that the lobby barely scratched the surface of the
THOUSANDS of clocks housed in the museum. The tour was led
by a guy who was evidently a former prison guard. . . we were
practically shackled together to keep us in line, lest we
make off with a 1000 pound grandfather clock hidden beneath
our T-shirts.
One of the tourists was ONLY interested if finding out if
an old clock he had inherited was worth anything and monopolized
the conversation with his "get rich quick" questions.
At one point, after seeing approximately 8 rooms full of clocks,
we passed by the front door. We assumed the tour was finished
and was wrapping up in the gift shop, so Roadchick B dodged
out to
use the ladies room.
A few minutes later, she emerged to find that a SWAT team
had been assembled to apprehend the AWOL tourist. Evidently,
the tour was NOT over, there were still 4 more rooms to see,
and my mysterious disappearance had put the entire museum
on "lockdown high alert." Little did they know,
I had a grandfather clock in my pocket. . .
