Boothe Park
(Stratford,
Connecticut)
Excerpts from Kristy:
Boothe
Park is a whimsical place filled with unusual buildings and
hidden surprises. The buildings were designed by a pair of
brothers. This plaque outside of the “Blacksmith's Shop”
should describe their taste for the unusual. “In competition
with Henry Ford's Blacksmith Shop which had 4 sides and 4
corners, David Boothe designed this Blacksmith Shop with 44
sides and 44 corners. He offered $5.00 to anyone who found
something missing and he never had to pay up. It houses blacksmithing
tools.”
The New Jersey toolbooths were a highlight of this stop.
Wooden tollbooths borught directly from the turnpike and they're
still working!
There's a pagoda, sunken gardens, fountains, unusual looking
buildings and the Boothe Brother's original house. The park
is worth a stop to see how eccentric people can creatively
leave their mark. (It's also a nice stop for a picnic!)
