World's Largest Cheeto
(Algona, Iowa)
Excerpts from Roadchick K:
The World’s Largest Cheeto is not an attraction to be lightly passed up on your travels. Originally found in a bag of Cheetos in Hawaii, it was put up for auction on Ebay. When the bidding became out of control at over $1 million, the seller became fed up and finally sold it to the small town of Algona in Iowa, who had been bidding from the very beginning, but ran out of funds.
Rumors are that the town plans to build a museum based around the Cheeto. Until that time the Cheeto resides in the bar of Sarah’s Restaurant right off of the highway in Algona. We stopped in for lunch followed by a dessert of photo snapping in the deserted bar. What a beauty. Softball sized reports may have been overstated, but it’s definitely bigger than a golf ball and is housed in a bullet proof case on a cheesy (pun intended) orange pedestal and purple cushion.
This is a must-stop and see in Iowa. It’s right off of the highway, the food is tasty and it’s not every day you see a Cheeto that you can’t even get in your mouth in one bite!
