we went today to Ormond castle, where we had an awesome tour
guide named Bernadette. She made funny little remarks and
really made the tour interactive.
This is where we were introduced to the Butler family, who
were originally butlers to the King of England (hence the
name). The wealth displayed in this castle from the exquisite
plaster work to the oak paneling to the minute details was
astounding to see after Ross Castle from the day before.
The castle portion was built first at Ormond castle, followed
by a manor house about a century later. I was amazed at how
rapidly artisans had advanced in that time period. Although
the Butlers appeared to have been some of the wealthiest and
most influential families in Ireland.
Alas, our journey through Tipperary was all too short.
