County Limerick
(Rain, Rain,
Rain)

It's been alternately rainy and sunny here in Limerick. It
pours then stops, pours then stops. Seems to be how Ireland
operates.
Limerick is completely different than Galway. Although both
seem a bit like the U.S. was in the 1950s. All of the stores
are in the city, no malls for the most part.
We
went to King John's Castle this morning (Richard the Lionheart's
brother) and it was vast and interesting. The castle was mostly
built for fortification so there were no living quarters inside.
So many people died defending this castle. It made life seem
so brief.
Had breakfast with a man and his mother who were touring
Ireland together. He works as a teacher in Jerusalem, but
grew up in Chicago where his mother still lives. The people
you meet on the journey always help to lead you at some point
later on in your journey.
Ah yes, no shower this morning. Beth had hot water, but there
was none to be had when I tried for hot water. I had to wash
my hair in the sink.

So
the "Angela's Ashes" Walking Tour was great. The
tour guide knew all kinds of inside information. He even grew
up in Limerick, so he knew about every other person we passed.
The tour took us around to the places from the famous Pulitzer
Prize winning novel. I believe we were definitely in parts
of Limerick that we would not have seen otherwise.
